Soroti City was thrown into chaos today as Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) President Eng. Patrick Oboi Amuriat and several Members of Parliament from Teso were arrested by security forces.
Among those detained were Hon. Alobo Joan, Hon. Jonathan Ebwaru, and other senior party leaders.

The circumstances surrounding their arrest remain unclear, but eyewitnesses report that the group was forcefully whisked away by security personnel in what appeared to be a well-coordinated operation. The incident has sparked outrage among FDC supporters, who have condemned the arrests as politically motivated.
“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of our leaders. This is a clear attack on democracy,” an FDC spokesperson stated.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement explaining the reason for the arrests. However, political tensions have been running high in the region, with opposition leaders frequently facing restrictions on their activities.
Earlier,Police deployed at Soroti City public gardens, and sealed off gates to prevent access to the independence square by the FDC party president who was part of the “No Cow – No Vote” campaign protesters claiming for cattle compensation, being spearhead by MPs Jonathan Ebwalu and Joan Alobo Acom.
