Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Julius Ahimbisibwe was discovered dead under unclear circumstances on Monday morning at his residence in Nakitokolo, Kyengera Town Council, Wakiso District.
His body was found inside a septic tank with a rope around his neck.
Ahimbisibwe, formerly the Jinja Road Division Police Commander, had been suspended the previous year following allegations of domestic violence that culminated in the shooting of his ex-wife.
He was undergoing both disciplinary and criminal proceedings related to the incident and had spent time on remand.
Police spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke confirmed the death and stated that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause.
“We want the outcome of the postmortem to establish what exactly was the cause of the death because just having a rope in somebody’s neck is not enough to confirm suicide,” Rusoke told the Highflyer Report.
The body has been transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Authorities emphasize that all necessary procedures will be followed to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Ahimbisibwe’s death.
