Police in Entebbe have launched a murder investigation following the brutal killing of an elderly couple, David and Deborah Mutaaga-Nabeeta, in their home in Lugonjo-Nakiwogo on Sunday night.
The couple, who had recently returned to Uganda after spending more than 30 years living in Switzerland, were found dead with multiple stab wounds, lying in pools of blood. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, where the Mutaaga-Nabeetas were well-known for their generosity and plans to settle permanently.
According to police, there were no signs of forced entry into the residence, and the CCTV cameras on the property remained intact, suggesting that the perpetrator may have had unrestricted access to the home.
Two casual labourers who had been working at the couple’s residence have since been arrested and are currently in custody to assist with the ongoing investigation.
“This is a deeply disturbing case, and we are treating it with the utmost urgency,” said the Entebbe Division Police Commander. “Our homicide team is conducting thorough forensic examinations, reviewing surveillance footage, and speaking to potential witnesses.”
Investigators are also working to retrace the couple’s last known movements and interactions prior to the murder. Police have urged members of the public to report any information that could aid in solving the case.
The double homicide has left residents of Lugonjo-Nakiwogo stunned and fearful. Many described the couple as kind-hearted individuals who had embraced their return home with optimism.
While arrests have been made, authorities say no conclusions have been drawn and all possible leads are being pursued. Police have assured the public that updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
