Roke Telkom has called for stronger collaboration among government, telecommunications companies, financial institutions, technology providers and other stakeholders to strengthen Uganda’s cybersecurity and build a resilient digital economy.
The call was made during the inaugural National Cybersecurity Conference, organised by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) under the theme, “Securing Uganda’s Digital Future: Collaboration, Resilience and Trust.”
The two-day conference, held from August 11–12, 2026, at the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, brought together key players in Uganda’s digital ecosystem to discuss the growing cybersecurity risks accompanying the country’s digital transformation.
Roke Telkom was among the official sponsors of the conference.
Speaking during a panel discussion on business continuity and national resilience, Peter Muhumuza, CEO of Roke Telkom, said cyber threats targeting individuals, businesses and critical infrastructure are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
“Every single day, malicious actors attempt to breach individual mobile phones, home Wi-Fi networks and enterprise servers. While service providers actively monitor, detect and mitigate threats behind the scenes, complete perimeter defence is impossible. Security awareness and rapid incident response must be embedded in every organisation’s operational routine,” Muhumuza said.
He said cybersecurity should no longer be viewed as the sole responsibility of IT departments or individual organisations, arguing that Uganda’s interconnected digital ecosystem requires information sharing and collective action.
Muhumuza also called for increased investment in local cybersecurity expertise and software innovation to reduce reliance on imported security solutions and make cyber protection more accessible.
Roke Telkom is integrating cybersecurity into its connectivity and digital services, including Roke Protect, which provides features such as parental controls and malware filtering.
At the conference, the company showcased Roke Protect, Roke Cloud, Travel eSIM, Roke Plus and Roke Enterprise, alongside cybersecurity solutions supported by technology partners including Sophos, Cohesity, F5 Networks, Nexus Guard, Bitdefender and ABQ.
The company said its participation as an official sponsor and exhibitor reflects its commitment to supporting a secure, resilient and trusted digital ecosystem as Uganda accelerates its digital transformation.
