Tragedy struck at the Central Processing Facility (CPF) in Kasinyi Village, Ngwedo Sub County, Buliisa District, when a worker was fatally injured by falling steel from a trailer on Tuesday afternoon.
The deceased, identified as Maxwell Atuganyira, 30, a resident of Kigoya Village in Buliisa Sub County, was an employee of Steadfast Crane Services, a subcontractor under Essar Crane Services Company. Atuganyira was struck by the falling metal while working on-site and succumbed to his injuries shortly after being admitted to a nearby clinic.
Jai Prakash Gupta, an instruction engineer with Essar Crane Services Company, confirmed the incident, noting that operations at the Central Processing Facility have been temporarily suspended as investigations into the accident continue.
Atuganyira’s father, William Muhinga, has called upon the company to provide financial support to the deceased’s family, highlighting that his son was the primary provider, responsible for both his children’s education and the welfare of his siblings. Muhinga is also urging the company to cover burial expenses and extend assistance to Atuganyira’s dependents, emphasizing the uncertainty now facing his grandchildren’s future.
Julius Allan Hakiza, the Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson, stated that authorities are actively investigating the matter to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
At the time of reporting, Atuganyira’s body remained at the scene as investigations proceeded.
