A tragic road crash claimed at least one life and left several others injured in Makindu Village, Buikwe District, on Monday evening, May 5, 2025.
According to SP Michael Kananura, the Uganda Police spokesperson, the accident occurred at around 5:00 PM along the Kisoga–Nyenga Road. A Scania bus, registration number UAV 701C, belonging to YY Company, was en route from Katosi to Jinja when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.

“The bus overturned and caught fire,” SP Kananura confirmed. “One person has been confirmed dead, and several others sustained injuries.”
Emergency responders rushed the injured to Kawolo Hospital, St. Francis Lwanga Hospital in Buikwe, and other nearby health centers for treatment. The identities of the deceased and injured passengers are yet to be confirmed.
Police and rescue teams remain at the scene, working to extinguish the blaze and recover bodies trapped in the wreckage.
Authorities say investigations into the cause of the crash are underway, and further details will be shared in due course.
This incident adds to growing concerns over road safety on Uganda’s highways, especially involving long-distance passenger vehicles.
