Renowned born-again pastor Robert Kayanja of Lubaga Miracle Centre took the stand at the Mwanga II court, offering a compelling testimony against nine former members of the “Kifeesi” gang.
The individuals are accused of trespassing on church property and falsely reporting to police that Kayanja had sodomized them.
In his testimony, Pastor Kayanja recounted his encounter with the gang members during a revival event in 2017, known as “77 DOGs,” aimed at helping individuals denounce their old, destructive ways.
The pastor described how the gang approached him during the revival, seeking spiritual guidance and transformation.
“They came to the church with a desire to change their lives,” Kayanja said, emphasizing the positive impact the revival had on many attendees.
However, the pastor’s experience took a troubling turn when the same individuals later allegedly turned against him, making shocking accusations. Kayanja expressed disbelief at their claims, noting that he had provided them with a space for healing and redemption.
“I have always opened my doors to those in need, including former gang members. It is painful to see them betray that trust,” he stated.
The case has drawn significant attention, not only due to Kayanja’s prominence in the community but also because it highlights ongoing issues related to crime, redemption, and trust within society. The pastor’s commitment to helping former gang members reflects his broader mission of promoting rehabilitation and hope.
As the court proceedings continue, the community remains watchful, grappling with the complexities of faith, redemption, and the struggle against crime in Kampala.
Kayanja’s testimony stands as a testament to his unwavering dedication to his ministry and the challenges that accompany it.
