Renowned Ugandan media personality and former tennis star Cedric Babu is dead. His death was announced on Saturday, May 31, sending shockwaves across the media and sports fraternity.
Cedric, 46 ,the son of veteran politician and former army officer Captain Francis Babu, had been battling a heart condition.
At the time of his death, a fundraising campaign was underway to raise Shs1.5 billion to facilitate a heart transplant.
The campaign had drawn widespread attention, with fans, friends, and colleagues rallying to support the effort.
Babu rose to national fame as a celebrated tennis player before transitioning into media, where he built a strong reputation as a charismatic presenter and media executive.
He was also known for his ventures in entertainment and his brief foray into politics, having contested for political office in Kampala.
Tributes have since poured in from across the country, with many describing him as a vibrant and inspiring figure who influenced Uganda’s youth through sports, media, and mentorship.
The family has requested privacy as burial arrangements are finalized. Details of the funeral will be communicated in due course.
