A disgruntled private security guard fatally shot two senior officers of Ultimate Security Company before being gunned down by police at the company’s premises in Mbuya, Bugolobi Parish, Nakawa Division.
The shooter, identified as Mwaawa Richard, reportedly stormed the offices around 9:00 AM and opened fire on Noella Zella, a Human Resource Assistant, before targeting and killing Bwampata Salez, the company’s Armory Officer.
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Mwaawa—who had allegedly been complaining to his employers for months over unpaid salary arrears—had recently been sacked. “Police at Jinja Road are actively investigating a tragic shooting incident that resulted in the deaths of three individuals, including the suspected shooter,” Owoyesigyire confirmed.
Witnesses at the scene described a horrifying moment of panic as employees scrambled for cover. “It was like a warzone,” said one shaken witness. “He knew exactly who he was coming for.”
Police, responding swiftly to reports of an active shooter, confronted Mwaawa and shot him dead as he allegedly resisted arrest. The firearm used in the attack has been recovered and is undergoing forensic analysis.
Though police have yet to officially confirm the motive, eyewitnesses strongly believe the violence stemmed from Mwaawa’s frustration over his dismissal and unresolved salary grievances.
All three bodies have been taken to City Mortuary Mulago for postmortem examinations.
“This is a deeply tragic event,” ASP Owoyesigyire added, urging the public to remain calm as investigations continue. “We are committed to uncovering all the facts behind this senseless act.”
