KCB Bank Uganda has deepened its investment in women-led entrepreneurship and grassroots economic empowerment by supporting the launch of the Mkazipreneur Community Library.
The new knowledge and innovation hub aimed at equipping women, youth and small business owners with the tools to build sustainable enterprises.
The facility, unveiled at the Mkazipreneur Hub in Ntinda, reflects a growing shift by financial institutions from providing capital alone to investing in the ecosystems that help entrepreneurs succeed.
Across Africa, banks are increasingly recognising that access to finance must be complemented by access to information, mentorship and business networks if small enterprises are to thrive.
KCB Bank Uganda’s contribution included supporting the establishment and branding of the community library, which will provide business development resources, entrepreneurial learning materials and collaborative spaces designed to nurture innovation and lifelong learning.
Speaking during the launch, Gladys Nalukenge Lubowa, Relationship Manager for Women in Business at KCB Bank Uganda, said empowering women represents a long-term investment in Uganda’s economic future.
“When we invest in women and communities, we are investing in sustainable economic growth. This Community Library is more than a reading space; it is a platform for ideas, entrepreneurship and opportunity.
At KCB Bank, we believe that inclusive access to knowledge and financial solutions unlocks potential and transforms lives. That is how we continue to stand with women and communities,” she said.
The initiative comes as Uganda continues to rely heavily on micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which account for the overwhelming majority of businesses and employ millions of people.
However, many entrepreneurs—particularly women—continue to face barriers including limited access to business training, mentorship and market information, factors that often constrain enterprise growth even when financing is available.
The Mkazipreneur Community Library seeks to address these gaps by serving as a resource centre for women entrepreneurs and start-ups, a venue for mentorship and skills development, and a community space that promotes literacy, innovation and collaboration.
For KCB Bank Uganda, the partnership aligns with its broader sustainability strategy, which increasingly emphasises economic empowerment, financial inclusion and community-driven development alongside its core banking operations.
By supporting community-based initiatives, the lender is positioning itself not only as a provider of financial services but also as a partner in enterprise development.
As Uganda pursues ambitious economic growth targets, initiatives that strengthen entrepreneurial capacity at the community level are expected to play an increasingly important role in creating resilient businesses, expanding employment opportunities and fostering inclusive growth.
The success of such programmes will depend not only on funding but also on sustained collaboration among financial institutions, development partners, community organisations and local leaders.
