Vivo Energy Uganda, the distributor and marketer of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants, has announced a leadership transition with the appointment of Joanita Mukasa Menya as its new Managing Director, effective September 1st. Menya succeeds Johan Grobbelaar, who will take on a new role within the Vivo Energy Group.
Grobbelaar’s tenure at Vivo Energy Uganda was marked by significant achievements, including the expansion of the Shell service station network, the introduction of sustainability initiatives, and a strong focus on innovation.
His leadership played a pivotal role in maintaining the company’s market-leading position in Uganda’s downstream energy sector. Under his guidance, Vivo Energy Uganda experienced sustained growth and solidified its reputation for operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Menya brings to the role a wealth of experience in sales and management, having previously served as Country Lead at Unilever Uganda Limited and Nestlé Equatorial Africa. She is recognized for her innovative leadership style and strategic business acumen, qualities that align with Vivo Energy’s ambitions as it enters its next phase of growth.
As the first female Managing Director at Vivo Energy Uganda, Menya is committed to continuing the company’s focus on innovation, customer-centric services, and sustainable business practices.
“I am honoured to take on this role at such an exciting time for Vivo Energy Uganda. I look forward to building on the strong foundation laid by Johan and leading the company towards even greater achievements,” Menya stated.
Hans Paulsen, Executive Vice President for East and Southern Africa at Vivo Energy, expressed his gratitude for Grobbelaar’s contributions and confidence in Menya’s leadership.
“We are immensely grateful to Johan Grobbelaar for his outstanding contributions to Vivo Energy Uganda. We are equally excited to welcome Joanita Mukasa Menya as the new Managing Director. Her expertise and vision align perfectly with our strategic goals, and we are confident she will continue to drive the company’s success in Uganda,” said Paulsen.
This leadership transition comes as Vivo Energy Uganda marks its tenth anniversary, positioning the company for continued success under Menya’s guidance.
