Uganda’s inflation has risen from 3.9 % in June to now 4% in July, an indicator that prices are rising.
The Annual Core Inflation increased to 4.0% from 3.8% recorded in June 2024 on account of annual services Inflation which has risen to 6.5% and 2.0 % respectively.
Samuel Echoko, Head Department Macro Economic Statistics at the Uganda Bureau of Statistics says that passenger transport rose to 8.2 % from 7.0%, cultural services inflation recorded at 8.4% from 5.7% and accommodation services inflation now at 4.8% from 4.4%.
Drivers for other goods inflation were second-hand vehicle price changes, refined oil price changes, corrugated iron sheets price changes and Tilapia fresh price changes.
The increase was driven by the increase in prices of second-hand vehicles, refined cooking oil, iron sheets, tilapia fish among others.
Under food crops and related items inflation, there was an increment from 0.5% to 2.0% driven by cooking bananas (matooke)dry beans, Irish potatoes, green cabbages among others.
Looking at energy and other utilities inflation, petrol price changes have been recorded at 8.8% from 9.0%, Diesel at 1.5% from 2.0%, firewood at 15.9% from 23.7% and a reduction as well in charcoal prices from 20.6% to 12.5%.
Senior Statistician, Nsanja Godfrey, notes that there has been increases in prices of charcoal, firewood and it is advisable to stop spending too much and opt for affordable food or other items.
