Thousands of Ugandans have thronged China Town, a newly opened store in the capital Kampala because it is selling products at giveaway prices.
People have since Monday been queuing up to gain entrance into the store. The vibrant commercial hub, known for its Chinese goods is currently a key destination for affordable products, attracting diverse shoppers daily as people are seen queuing to get in for cheap items from when it was opened .
Upon hearing that the store has the cheapest retail price in the country, Ugandans, wore their best dresses and swarmed the mall.
Today, shoppers were forced to exit prematurely, following intel of bomb threats. But they refused to leave. After authorities successfully evacuated them, they still loitered around the building.

Yet, some were saying they don’t believe there is a real bomb threat. The mall just wanted them to leave because they were too much and could possibly buy out the store in just their second day of operation.
However, Okwanget David Kabarage, the sales manager says the closure is temporary for a system upgrade to be implemented after it broke down as a result of too much congestion and work.
“So we had to do some upgrades on the processors, and also clear off some stock that was scattered by customers and we are still open for business.”
“We want to have proper public management and Standard Operating Procedures (S.O.Ps) following police guidance such as walk through detectors, and barriers to enable proper searching,”Kabarage adds.
