Rogers Byamukama, a delegate from the Friends of the Uganda Football Union (FUFU), has been declared the new National Resistance Movement (NRM) chairperson for Masindi Municipality after going through unopposed in an election held at Masindi Stadium.
Byamukama’s only competitor, Bobu Byaruhunga, was disqualified for not following proper procedures outlined in the NRM’s internal electoral structure. According to officials, Byaruhunga skipped key steps in the nomination process, prompting the party to bar him from contesting.
Speaking after his victory, Byamukama, who has declared his intention to run for Member of Parliament for Masindi Municipality in the upcoming elections, described his win as the beginning of his political journey.
“This is a sign that the people believe in me. Their love and unity have shown that I can manage the role of MP,” he said.
He urged residents to reject bribery in the forthcoming elections, warning against voting for candidates who offer money but do not deliver development.
NRM registrar for Masindi District, Ogwan Moses, confirmed that the election of leaders at various levels in the municipality was peaceful, with no major complaints apart from Byaruhunga’s disqualification.
