The retired general and political heavyweight, who has been a fixture in Ugandan politics for decades, appeared at a public gathering over the weekend where he struggled to walk unassisted and spoke in labored tones.
Despite his declining health, Gen. Ali declared his determination to represent his constituency in the upcoming elections.

“I may be old, but my mind is clear and my heart is committed to serving the people,” he told a crowd of supporters, many of whom expressed concern over his physical condition.
The announcement has sparked widespread debate, with critics questioning whether Gen. Ali can effectively serve in office given his visible frailty. Others, however, view his decision as a testament to resilience and a lifetime of dedication to public service.
“This isn’t just about Gen. Moses Ali,” said political commentator Sarah Nyombi. “It’s about what we expect from our leaders and the systems we have in place to ensure they can fulfill their duties.”
As Uganda gears up for another election season, all eyes will be on the aging general and the conversation he’s reignited.
