President Museveni has officially commissioned the 132kV Kole-Gulu-Nebbi-Arua transmission line, connecting the West Nile Region to the National Transmission Grid.
Previously, the West Nile region experienced poor quality power supply and frequent outages because the available supply could not meet the demand. Now the commissioning is expected to increase the supply to the region.
This milestone marks a new era of development and prosperity for the region after the line was successfully energized at Nebbi Substation.
During the commissioning, President Museveni has highlighted some historical facts regarding the progress of Uganda’s electricity sector and the story behind the journey of connecting West Nile to the national grid, that began with the Nyagak Power Station , a 3.5 megawatts (4,700 hp) mini hydroelectric powerplant.
The region has also witnessed the ground-breaking ceremony for the 24MWp ITUKA Solar Project in Uleppi, Madi Okollo.
The project investors, AMEA Power have committed to have the project powered by Q4 in 2025, adding 24MW on the National Grid.
AMEA Power is a Dubai-based developer, owner and operator of renewable energy projects with a focus across Africa.
While in Nebbi district, the president attended a thanksgiving celebration for the Hon. State Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, Phiona Nyamutoro and hailed her dedication and deep sense of patriotism.
“Young people should focus on having the right ideas, and I was happy to hear that Nyamutoro’s focus areas include education, health, and enterprise.”
